A few months ago, I had the opportunity to go ice racing with my good buddy, Larry Yatch (check him out here!). Now, Larry is an interesting fellow (but that’s another post) to say the least. Short story is, he’s a retired Navy SEAL officer and a super genius. The long story is for another day. 😉
Larry is an expert in teaching others how to make the most of coordinating action. He also used to be a racing driving instructor (the guy is literally James Bond), which you can see in this video. We’re hurtling down a frozen lake in a Volkswagen that’s stripped down to the bare essentials, and modified to drive at high speed on ice. Ok, it FELT like high speed, but we really never got above 30 mph. It was an absolute hoot!
What I want you to notice especially in this video, is the clear, short instructions that Larry gives me as he’s showing me how to guide a speeding car around an icy lake (yes, it’s a hilarious amount of fun). This is a lot how God works in fathering us.
Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
Proverbs 4: A Father’s Instruction
4 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, 2 For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my instruction.
He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Those well worn tracks on the ice sure felt like paths of righteousness for me!
For the kingdom,
